The rumours are true NEO 2009 DD45 - an asteroid between 20m and 60m across - will pass within 64 000 kms of Earth some time today ( 13:44 UT or 9:44 AM EST to be precise). It's due to pass over or into the Pacific, depending on whether those egg heads remembered to carry the 'y' or not. To put that in perspective, the asteroid will pass within 1/3 of the distance between the Earth and the moon. It will be about twice as high up as the geo synchronise satellites. This is a very near miss, even in NEO terms. You can keep track of our little visitors @ NASA's NEO Program. Kinda puts Chris and Rihanna in perspective, cosmically speaking. Even if your life is a drama right now, remember that it only takes one space rock to change everything.
