Natasha Richardson, wife of actor Liam Neeson, and a member of the Redgrave acting dynasty, is in critical condition. According to reports she was taking some private skiing instruction at a resort 80 miles north of Montreal when things took a bad turn. Richards was on one of the beginners slopes when she tool a slip and hit her head. She was not wearing a helmet (not required by law) , and her instructor insisted she see a doctor but reportedly Richardson laughed it off. An hour after returning to the hotel Richardson complained of a splitting headache. An ambulance was called and the actress was transported to Sacre Couer hospital. By then she was unconscious.Her family was called. Liam Neeson left the set of his Toronto movie to be by her side. Family from Britain, including aunt Lynn Redgrave made the trip over. By now there were conflicting reports in the press. TMZ & NY Post insisted the actress was brain dead, would be removed from life support, and an announcement would be made sometime tomorrow. FOX TV went along with this. More reputable sources like CNN were declining to comment on this, merely saying that the actress is in critical condition.
Meanwhile there are new reports that Richardson is to be transported from Montreal to New York. There is no official word from the family on this, but the rumour mill sis saying that it's to give family a chance to say good bye. Now that's a long way to go just to pull the plug so some are speculating that Richardson might have some chance to pull through this (God help her!). The idea is that when the family arrived at the bedside, the decided a second opinion might give Richardson a second chance, and so she is being moved to get her the best medical help possible. Then again this is only speculation and nothing has been confirmed, except the accident, and that Ms Richardson is in some pretty serious trouble. Keep your fingers crossed for her.
