The Kennedy Assassination, Beyond Conspiracy

The Kennedy Administration was probably the first one where politics and show business intersected in a major way. It began with the infamous/famous TV debate, in which John F Kennedy's viewer friendly image was said to have sold him to the American Public like soap suds. To say TV elected Kennedy might be giving the medium too much credit - Lyndon Johnson's vote foxing probably had something to do with it too.

Kennedy was to continue to be a show business president even after getting elected; he palled around with Frank Sinatra and screwed Marylin Monroe among many, many others. His presidency was played out on TV perhaps more than any previous administration. Oddly even his tragic assignation was captured on film, to be replayed again and again for the morbid voyeurism of a nation.

The show wouldn't end there. The Kennedy assignation was to be replayed and re hashed over and over again by a media that couldn't get enough of their movie star president. Naturally conspiracy theories emerged - everyone likes a good story. In fact Kennedy Assignation Conspiracy Theories have become and entertainment growth industry, and have implicated the Russians, the Mafia, Lyndon Johnson, the Illuminati, the Federal Reserve, and aliens from the Pleiades to name only a few of the usual suspects. In fact everyone has been connected to the crime except Professor Plumb lurking in the study with a bookend! In the following video the BBC takes a try at entertainments favourite unsolved mystery.

Now that you've got the BBC take on the Kennedy assignation, here's the American version. They give it the full Mythbusters treatment complete with artificially constructed plastic presidents!
