We knock 'em, so let it not be said that we don't also give 'em credit when they deserve it. In this case the credit goes to Angelina Jolie, and what she's earned - sort of - is the title of Most Beautiful Woman in the World. I say she sort of earned it because it was really the readers of Vanity Fair magazine who did the work, by voting in droves for her. By droves I mean that Jolie got 58 per cent of the votes cast, while runner up Gisele Bundchen got only 9%. Former World's Most Beautiful, Halle Berry, was 3rd, with Frieda Pinto and Queen Rania getting honourable mentions by placing in the top ten. Polically incorrect beauty - If a face can launch 1000 ships, then think of how many magazines it might sell!
VF gives them this dubious compliment “Of the billions of women on this planet, only 19, we believe, could start wars.” referring to the nominees in the Most Beautiful Face Off. This seems to express some mixed feelings on the issue of war. With the current mania for Weapons of Mass Destruction, we can only hope that equating these famous bombshells with them will not make the beautiful people an endangered species - though PETA could use a new media angle: Save the Endangered Hollywood Bunny!
