By now the world is aware that David Hasselhoff nearly drunk himself to death. His daughter found him passed out on the floor of his Encino home barely breathing. When he got to Cedars Sinai he had a blood count of .39. That's comparable to what Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham's was when he died.
That was a very famous case - Bonham's driver picked him up that morning to take him to Page's (Page had a recording studio on his premises). Bonham had the guy stop at a pub for breakfast. Bonham ordered a sausage roll and 4 'quadruple' vodkas straight. He drank the vodka's, then took a single bite out of the sausage roll and said "That's breakfast".
Of course the drinking continued from there. By the afternoon Bonham was too messed up to perform, so they put him to bed, making sure to position him face down - just in case. If course things were beyond the point where that would do any good. Bonham died of an 'alcohol overdose'. His heart stopped just as if he'd taken an over dose of pills.
By the sounds of Hasselhoff he was pretty close to that state by the time he was found. Article's are saying that he'd almost stopped breathing? Had his daughter not happened by when she did, we'd be talking about his death now.
A footnote on Zeppelin: It was Bonham's death that broke the band up. Plant and Bonham were the only guys in the band who were actually friends. They had even played together previously in a folk rock group called Band of Joy (and it was Plant who brought Bonham into Zeppelin). Bonham's death was just a bit too much for Plant to get over. Besides he blamed Page personally for it.
At the time (and even now) Page was heavily into the occult. He was particularly interested in the ideas of Aliestar Crowley (as was David Bowie). Well the more Page got involved in the dark side, the more freaky stuff that started to happen, especially to Plant. In short order Plant's father died, Plant got into a serious car accident (and busted an ankle - that took months to heal), Plant's son died, and then Bonham. Rumours say that Plant felt Page's occult dabbling was bring bad luck to the band. Plant still refuses to tour with the group, and is the major hold out to a LZ reunion tour. So remember - alcohol and witchcraft just don't mix!
