Ever since Tracy Morgan said that gays should be killed dead, even if one were his own flesh and blood, some have been wondering which celeb would be the next to go off their pretty little head and say or do something outrageous. Almost before the damage control apology was out of Morgan's mouth, Russ Crowe was reported to have come down with a disturbing case of Mel Gibson Syndrome (last outbreak was John Galliano). Russ was talking about circumcision - we don't know how the subject came up, perhaps it has something to do with Wiener in the news - when Russy made the following astonishing remarks:“Circumcision is barbaric and stupid. Who are you to correct nature? Is it real that GOD requires a donation of foreskin? Babies are perfect.”
Mentioning God makes the whole thing come off as anti Semitic, by approaching it on religious grounds rather than as a medical procedure. The comment was, of course, tweeted. It was as if he learned nothing from Congressman Anthony Wiener's penis related twitter misfortune. When challenged on the hygienic aspects, Russ retorted:
”Hygenic? Why don’t you sew up your a** then?”
Some might think he'd have been better off sowing up his *ahem* twitter finger.
Eventually the enormity of what he said sunk in, and perhaps fearing a boozy return to George street St John's NL, he went into full celebrity apology damage control mode, tweeting:
”many jewish friends, I love my Jewish friends, I love the apples and the honey and the funny little hats but stop cutting yr babies.”
“if u feel it is yr right 2 cut things off yr babies please unfollow and f**k off, I’ll take attentive parenting over barbarism.”
'Funny little hats' wasn't helping his cause much. So that required even more clarification:
“I have a deep and abiding love for all people of all nationalities, I’m very sorry that I have said things on here that have caused distress… My personal beliefs aside I realize that some will interpret this debate as me mocking the rituals and traditions of others. I am very sorry.”
How many celebrity careers have been destroyed by reckless use of Twitter, & yet they continue tweeting!
