It’s the cast shake-up we all saw coming but didn’t want to admit. Series regulars Lea Michele,Cory Monteith and Chris Colfer will not be returning to Fox’s smash “Glee” in season four according to co-creator Ryan Murphy in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

We first got wind of Murphy’s intentions to revamp the cast in an interview with “On Air with Ryan Seacrest” last month, when he explained that he felt it was important that the show continue in real time and have the cast graduate from high school.

“We didn’t want to have a show where they were in high school for 8 years,” said Murphy in the interview with Ryan. “We really wanted it to be true to that experience. We thought it would be really cool if we were true to the timeline.” Murphy also revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that viewers will discover exactly who stays and who goes in the season three premiere of the show on September 20. But Murphy stresses to fans that this shouldn’t be viewed as a sad moment for the show.

“We’ve got Matthew Morrison and Jane Lynch who will stay and be the male and female lynchpins of the series, but I think the fun thing about the show is it’s a celebration of youth and talent,” explains Murphy. “I think that just like with the original cast, I think finding those young unknown people and giving them an opportunity to break into the business and become stars is a really fun and exciting thing and is the spirit of the series.”
Tune into “On Air with Ryan Seacrest” in the coming days for an interview with Sue Sylvester herself, Jane Lynch and her thoughts on the departure of the show’s stars.
