The following ENow clip shows some excerpts of Chris Brown discussion of domestic violence. Chris admits that his own mother was abused, and goes on to say that he could never do such things. Just watch:
So I guess the big question is "WHY?" Well I'm sure that some stories are gonna come out about that shortly. In the meantime it's interesting to note that if any one actually learned from experience then history would never repeat it's self - which it does do at regular intervals. In fact people who have been the victims of abuse are more likely to repeat the behaviour patterns as adults. This is apparent in such 'violence memes' as "dog eat dog", and "survival of the fittest" (thank you Charles Darwin!). They seem to reinforce the idea that you've got be on one end of the pointed stick or the other - and that there is one sure way of staying off of the business end. The best defense is a good offense (has that ever worked?), and whatever you do don't be a victim (perhaps whatabusers have really learned from their experience).
Do unto others before they do unto you
Dishing it out instead of taking it becomes an important way to reinforce individual identity and feel powerful in a hostile world. In fact it's the usual way the people learn to conform to the ways of the world. I don't make the rules but I gotta play the game! People learn inspite of experience, not from it. Remember that it may be dog eat dog out there, but you are what you eat!!
Home was made for goin' from for dreams of goin' to; which with any luck will never come true
It's also interesting to note that Chris went from having the world, to being in a world of trouble; in the course of about 12 hours. He was supposed to walk out on stage Grammy Night as a conquering hero. Life would be all platinum records and endorsements after that. Instead he's looking at 9 years in the slammer and will probably never work again. In his shoes I'd probably plea bargain my way down to the least I could get away with, rather than squandering money on lawyers. Even if he beats the rap, his future earning potential is zero (with a 0.02% margin of error either way!). The thing is that his troubles befell him not so much inspite of his success (which anyone would have to admit certainly didn't protect him), as because of it. You might even say that the fast lane was a short cut to a dead end in this case - even if you're driving a Lamborghini. When the Gods wish to punish us, they make our dreams come true (I knew there had to be a catch in the Laws of Attraction - besides the fact that they don't work!). I wonder if he'll get a cell next to Conrad Black??
