Ryan O Neal opens up about Farrah Fawcett's cancer struggle

It looks like time is running out for TV icon Farrah Fawcett. In an exclusive interview to People magazine her long time partner Ryan O Neal reveals that the treatments have stopped and now they are concentrating on making her as comfortable as possible. Though still in numerous IV's, they are now only for feeding and pain medication. Also her famous hair has fallen out, a victim of chemo/radiation side effects. Though Farrah seemed indifferent to the lose, Ryan has preserved that hair, which he keeps in their home.

Most of Fawcett's days are spent in bed. When she's not sleeping she watches TV. Dominick Dunne's Power, Privilege, and Justice is her favourite. She also receives guests. Her old partners in crime Jackie Smith and Kate Jackson regularly drop in on her. Even her son Redmond has been by.

Redmond however remains the sore spot. He's currently incarcerated. When he was taken for a 3 hour visit with his mom he was wearing the standard issue orange jump suit and shackles. Redmond insists that his mother doesn't know about his trouble. Redmond claims he accomplishes this through lying. "I tell her she's gonna make it." he says, going on to say that "I tell the guards she's rebounding. I lie a lot. It's best".

His father Ryan also protects Farrah from the truth. "She asked me the other week" Ryan is quoted in People as saying, "Am I going to make it?"  "Sure you are," Ryan responded, "and if you don't then I'm coming with you!" It wasn't always so grim. Ryan reveals that for a while it looked like Farrah was going to win the fight. She was even playing tennis again. Then she got that bad news. Oddly it was the same day she started her video documentary.

The documentary wasn't planned. Farrah just happened to have her portable video camera with her, and decided to record her visit. However after getting the news the video log was extended to record the  full ordeal. Ryan had to take over the recording eventually. he admits that it was very personal and pretty rough. There were many times he wanted to stop recording, but Farrah was insistent. "This is what people with cancer go through." she explained to her partner.

O Neal readily admits that he's devastated by this. "This is a love story that I don't know how to play." he tells People. He also reveals that he's constantly haunted every time he walks through some place that they've been together or hears one of their songs on the radio. "It's like a knife twisting through my heart," the actor states. He goes on "I won't know this world without her."

Hopefully the documentary may provide some sort of closure, if that's even possible. It will also provide an enduring record of their most intense time together. Also, it was Farrah's intent that this might help other cancer suffers, by providing some kind of insight into the experience. The documentary will air Friday May 15, on NBC.

PS. Though Farrah Fawcett is most closely associated with Charlie's Angels, the show that made her a star, she went on to prove herself as a serious actress by working  in a number of biopics. She has starred in The Burning Bed, Nazi  Hunter: The Beate Klarsfelt Story, The Barbara Hutton Story, and Margaret Bourke White.

Now after that you're bound to need some comic relief. Here it is in the form of a friendly neighbourhood space case who's tin foil hat wasn't wrapped tightly enough!

There are a few things in the previous story that just don't add up like: why would a single guy be cleaning 4 plates? Did the cat have company over? Perhaps that was the first sign he was starting to crack. He was expecting his space visitors and so set dinner places for them. Well the main thing is that it ended happily by turning into another space/channeling cult, and without any psychiatric intervention!

Daily Dharma:

In the same way that someone in the midst of a rough crowd guards a wound with great care, so in the midst of bad company should one always guard the wound that is the mind.

Now on a completely unrelated note - ever wonder what would happen if Wonder Woman took on a X Man? The answer is 'no contest' as the following short video of the Amazing Amazon sparring with Rogue will show.

Well when it comes to Wonder Woman what can you say? She's a brickhouse!
